After weeks of frequent fronts and thunderstorms -- plus cold weather -- farmers are moving into warmer weather and maybe a drier pattern. They need it to finish planting in May.
Farmers take advantage of open weather in parts of the region but colder temperatures are in the forecast. That may punch the pause button for some growers, especially in the upper Midsouth.
Cotton planting still lags but warmer and drier weather appear in the forecast just in time for a big early-May push.
For cotton farmers, the 2020 season is starting out much like 2019 -- cold and wet with plenty of delays. Significant cotton planting in the Delta states probably won't start until May.
