Georgia Pecan Prices: Down as Season Wraps Up

The weather for this week in South and Central Georgia shows cool days ranging from the high 50s and climbing to mid-70s by Sunday.
Eves and early mornings will be from the mid-40s cooling to mid-30s with rain and cold evenings starting on Monday. Cooler in northern areas with today’s high at 50 and getting colder with evening temps expected to be freezing all week. Rain expected on Thursday and Sunday.

Movement is slowing down as most growers are scraping the orchards and cleaning up what is left to offer this week. Several lots are being inspected and graded today through Friday and hopefully they will be offered prices that they all can agree upon. The last pecan report this year for Georgia will be next Tuesday, January 11, 2022.

Prices appear to have let down a little from last week, however there is still some interest in top export quality pecans as other areas around the country have not yet had enough volume come in to compete with those prices yet. Commercial domestic buyer’s interest and the retail gift pack businesses have slowed down. Offerings were fairly light this week. Most offerings were from Blends, mostly of Desirables and Stuarts.

Desirable Blends (nut count 46-52) 50-52% meat yield sold in a range of about $4.20-4.30 per point, occasional higher. Stuart Blends (nut count 50-65) 46-49% meat yield sold in a range of about $4.15-4.25 per point, occasional higher. Other small Blends (nut count 70-80) 45-48% meat yield sold in a range of about $4.05-4.15 per point.

Prices paid to growers (late afternoon Tuesday, December 28, 2021 thru late afternoon Tuesday, January 04, 2022) at buyers delivery point or F.O.B. the orchard including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell of generally good quality in lots of 20,000 pounds or less unless otherwise stated.
