Peanut Stocks: Utilization Down 3%; 4.5Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2021 totaled 4.50 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.49 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.85 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 623 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 27.7 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 468 million pounds of which 442 million pounds were edible grades and 26.3 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 64.6 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 361 million pounds of Runners, and 16.3 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in October totaled 386 million pounds. Millings by type were 65.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 314 million pounds of Runners, and 7.29 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 209 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 124 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 38.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.8 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 60.6 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.64 million pounds of peanut butter and 77.8 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during October.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2021 totaled 858 thousand pounds, compared with 855 thousand pounds on September 30, 2021. Of the October total, 106 thousand pounds were Runners. September stocks of treated seed included 106 thousand pounds of Runners.
