Peanut Stocks: Utilization Down 4%; 1.4Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on September 30, 2021 totaled 1.41 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.46 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 758 million pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 639 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 15.8 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 480 million pounds of which 449 million pounds were edible grades and 30.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 57.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 377 million pounds of Runners, and 15.1 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in September totaled 390 million pounds. Millings by type were 23.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, and 366 million pounds of Runners.

    Commercial processors utilized 196 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 115 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 34.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.0 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 46.9 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.90 million pounds of peanut butter and 104 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during September.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2021 totaled 855 thousand pounds, compared with 855 thousand pounds on August 31, 2021. Of the

    September total, 106 thousand pounds were Runners. August stocks of treated seed included 106 thousand pounds of Runners.
