DTN Grain Open: Markets Mixed, Await Export Sales Data

    Pre-6 a.m. CDT prices, CME Globex: December corn is down 1/2 cent, November soybeans are up 3 1/4 cents and December KC wheat is down 3 1/2 cents.

    CME GLOBEX RECAP: Early Thursday, Dow Jones futures are starting a little higher with European markets mixed. Earnings reports continue to roll in and, according to CNBC.com, 40% of S&P 500 companies have reported and 80% of those have exceeded estimates. USDA’s weekly export sales report is due out at 7:30 a.m. CDT, along with an update of the Drought Monitor and the first estimate of U.S. GDP in the third quarter.

    OUTSIDE MARKETS: Previous closes Wednesday showed the Dow Jones Industrial Average down 266.19 at 35,490.69 and the S&P 500 down 23.11 at 4,551.68 as the 10-Year Treasury yield dropped to 1.53%. Early Thursday, December Dow Jones futures are trading up 44 points.

    Asian markets are lower with Japan’s Nikkei 225 index down 0.96% and China’s Shanghai Composite Index down 1.23%. European markets are mixed with the spot futures of the London FTSE 100 trading down 0.26%, spot futures of Germany’s DAX trading down 0.11% and spot futures of France’s CAC Index trading up 0.39%.

    The December euro is down $0.0022 at $1.1598. The December U.S. Dollar Index is up 0.11 at 93.91. The December 30-year T-bond is down 2/32nds, while December gold is up $3.40 at $1,802.20 and December crude oil is down $0.45 at $82.21.

    On China’s Dalian exchange, January corn was down 0.8%, January soybeans were down 0.6%, January soybean meal was up 0.2% and January soybean oil was down 1.8%. September common wheat on China’s Zhengzhou exchange was unchanged. January Malaysian palm oil is trading down 0.8%.
