Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 4%; 2.4Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on June 30, 2021 totaled 2.43 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.24 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.65 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 741 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 36.3 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 557 million pounds of which 528 million pounds were edible grades and 29.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 61.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 426 million pounds of Runners, and 40.6 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in June totaled 411 million pounds. Millings by type were 36.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 364 million pounds of Runners, and 10.7 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 216 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 120 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 46.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 43.1 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 61.5 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 4.58 million pounds of peanut butter and 103,680 pounds of roasted peanuts during June.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2021 totaled 6.49 million pounds, compared with 16.3 million pounds on May 31, 2021. Of the June total, 4.28 million pounds were Runners. May stocks of treated seed included 13.0 million pounds of Runners.
