In this video, K-State crop nutrient specialist Dorivar Ruiz-Diaz talks about the process of nutrient release from crop residue and cover crops, and why producers should pay attention to that as part of their crop nutrient management.

Crop residue, he says, protects soil from erosion and contribute to soil organic matter. It also plays a role in nutrient cycling, or the movement and exchange of organic and inorganic matter back into the production of matter.

Ruiz-Diaz discusses two scenarios for carbon-to-nitrogen ratio in crop residue, and the implications of both.
