Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 3%, 4Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 28, 2021 totaled 3.98 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.00 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.26 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 692 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 21.3 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 521 million pounds of which 501 million pounds were edible grades and 19.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 66.4 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 399 million pounds of Runners, and 35.9 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in February totaled 396 million pounds. Millings by type were 52.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 338 million pounds of Runners, and 5.20 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 189 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 113 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.0 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 50.0 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.03 million pounds of peanut butter and 51,840 pounds of roasted peanuts during February.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, 2021 totaled 23.7 million pounds, compared with 962 thousand pounds on January 31, 2021.
