Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 6%, 4Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on January 31, 2021 totaled 4.13 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.32 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.42 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 684 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 26.4 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 515 million pounds of which 493 million pounds were edible grades and 21.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 65.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 391 million pounds of Runners, and 36.6 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in January totaled 279 million pounds. Millings by type were 59.4 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 214 million pounds of Runners, and 5.20 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 196 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during January. Utilization by type was 116 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 34.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 41.6 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 50.0 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.38 million pounds of peanut butter and 207 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during January.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand January 31, 2021 totaled 962 thousand pounds, compared with 17.0 thousand pounds on December 31, 2020.
