Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 8%, 4.4Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on December 31, 2020 totaled 4.37 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.61 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.71 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 632 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 28.0 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 475 million pounds of which 453 million pounds were edible grades and 22.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 62.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 352 million pounds of Runners, and 37.6 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in December totaled 376 million pounds. Millings by type were 59.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 311 million pounds of Runners, and 6.41 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 195 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during December. Utilization by type was 112 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 34.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 44.2 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 47.9 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 660 thousand pounds of peanut butter and 104 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during December.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand December 31, 2020 totaled 17.0 thousand pounds, compared with 17.0 thousand pounds on November 30, 2020.
