Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 2%, 2.4Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on June 30, 2020 totaled 2.40 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.77 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.70 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 656 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 37.9 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 493 million pounds of which 465 million pounds were edible grades and 28.3 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 74.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 334 million pounds of Runners, and 56.3 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in June totaled 391 million pounds. Millings by type were 69.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 311 million pounds of Runners, and 10.8 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 202 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 124 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 32.7 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.5 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 52.5 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.02 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during June.

Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2020 totaled 3.83 million pounds, compared with 18.3 million pounds on May 31, 2020. Of the June total, 2.35 million pounds were Runners. May stocks of treated seed included 14.4 million pounds of Runners.
