Due to a recent surge in COVID-19 cases in the region, and out of an abundance of caution for farmer customers and retailers, Horizon Ag is canceling its 2020 Louisiana Field Day that had been scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, at Richard Farms near Kaplan, Louisiana.
“While we look forward to this field day every year, and the opportunity it provides to share the latest news about our Provisia and Clearfield varieties, the rapidly changing conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in us making this difficult but necessary decision,” said Dr. Tim Walker, Horizon Ag general manager.
“During this time, we remain committed to the health and safety of our customers and retail partners and will continue to work with you throughout the season to ensure your well-being.”
In place of the event, Horizon Ag will be communicating in coming weeks regarding the strong performance farmers are experiencing with the Provisia Rice System and varieties PVL01 and PVL02, as well as Provisia varieties in development.

Horizon Ag also will be sharing information about Clearfield varieties, including new Horizon Ag variety CLL17, an early-season, semi-dwarf, long grain Clearfield rice currently in registered seed production. CLL17, from the breeding program of Dr. Adam Famoso at the LSU AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station, has shown strong yield potential, excellent milling yield, very good grain quality and resistance to blast.
“If you have any questions, please call Horizon Ag at 866-237-6167,” said Dr. Walker. “We sincerely look forward to hopefully seeing you in person at our field day in 2021.”
