Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 4%; 4.2Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 29, 2020 totaled 4.16 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.33 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.42 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 714 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 27.1 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 537 million pounds of which 510 million pounds were edible grades and 26.6 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 83.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 390 million pounds of Runners, and 37.2 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in February totaled 383 million pounds. Millings by type were 59.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 318 million pounds of Runners, and 4.95 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 187 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 107 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 32.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.0 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 50.7 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.17 million pounds of peanut butter during February.

Stocks of treated seed on hand February 29, 2020 totaled 2.83 million pounds, compared with 1.18 million pounds on January 31, 2020. Of the February total, 221,000 pounds were Runners. January stocks of treated seed included 163,000 pounds of Runners.
