Many producers plant cotton and soybean varieties that are resistant to dicamba herbicides. Before making these herbicide applications, producers must have state certification and annual training because of a high injury risk.

Alabama Cooperative Extension System crop specialists will provide auxin herbicide trainings in 16 locations throughout the state to fulfill Xtendimax, FeXapan and Engenia label requirements.

Auxin Herbicide Training Program

The program is intended to help applicators reduce herbicide drift incidents with susceptible crops. The program will also provide information on technical application methods, tank cleanout and new chemistry.

The producer, certified applicator or person responsible for the application on resistant cotton and soybean varieties in Alabama, must receive this training. Though trainings were offered in 2019, this program will highlight new information and research updates as well as information covered in previous trainings.

Applicators will need to have either a commercial or private applicator permit, in conjunction with this training, to be eligible to purchase and apply dicamba to resistant crops.

Meetings begin Jan. 14 and will continue through March 16. Registration is $15 and is available online at the Alabama Extension Store. People can also call their county Extension office to inquire about registration.
