Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 3%; 4.11Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2019 totaled 4.11 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.20 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.35 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 725 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 31.5 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 545 million pounds of which 523 million pounds were edible grades and 22.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 106 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 374 million pounds of Runners, and 42.7 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in October totaled 408 million pounds. Millings by type were 67.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 340 million pounds of Runners, and 106,000 pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 209 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 130 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 29.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 41.8 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 47.7 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 781,280 pounds of peanut butter and 51,840 pounds of roasted peanuts during October.

Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2019 totaled 203,000 pounds, compared with 349,000 pounds on September 30, 2019. Of the October total, 133,000 pounds were Runners. September stocks of treated seed included, 279,000 pounds of Runners.
