People who need to safely dispose of unwanted pesticides should take advantage of a Pesticide Clean Day Wednesday, Nov. 13 in Macon County.
“Pesticides that are not properly disposed of can leach out into the environment, causing point and non-point source pollution,” said Sonja Thomas, the Alabama Extension Pesticide Safety Education Specialist. “This program will allow people to bring unwanted pesticides in for safe and environmentally sound disposal.”
The following materials will be accepted for disposal:
- Growth retardants
People can bring these materials at no cost to the Clean Day location for disposal. Products that are no longer needed or expired will be accepted. Products with unreadable labels or missing registrations will also be accepted.
Thomas said not all materials will be accepted.
The following materials will not be accepted:
- Compressed gas cylinders
- Petroleum products (motor oil)
- Medical waste
- Radioactive materials
- Dioxin precursors
