Tennessee: Ag in the Foothills Field Day, Walland, Oct. 3

The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture invites producers, farmer veterans and others interested in agriculture to attend the Ag in the Foothills Field Day Thursday, October 3, at the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center’s Little River Unit in Walland, Tenn.

At 9 a.m. EDT, Dr. Charlie Hatcher, Tennessee Commissioner of Agriculture, will update producers on the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program and other opportunities available to them through TDA. Morning programs will include hops, hemp, bees and beef and forage production practices and technologies. In the afternoon, attendees can view a drone demonstration or attend a session on Beef Quality Assurance certification for their operations. The final session will conclude at 3 p.m.

In the afternoon, a Farmer Veteran Coalition meeting will also take place at the field day. Farmer Veteran Coalition is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization assisting veterans and currently serving members of the Armed Forces to embark on careers in agriculture.

This event is free and open to the public. Registration will open at 8 a.m. with complimentary milk, coffee and biscuits for early arrivals, and presentations will start at 9 a.m. Lunch is sponsored by the UT Block & Bridle Club, and pre-registration for a lunch ticket is encouraged.

The Little River Animal and Environmental Unit of the East Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center is located at 3229 Ellejoy Road in Walland, Tennessee.
