Peanut Stocks: Utilization Down; 3.5Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on April 30, 2019 totaled 3.50 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.79 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.71 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 746 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 44.4 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 561 million pounds of which 538 million pounds were edible grades and 22.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 86.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 404 million pounds of Runners, and 48.3 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in April totaled 422 million pounds. Millings by type were 70.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 336 million pounds of Runners, and 14.5 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 191 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during April. Utilization by type was 110 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 30.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 38.0 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 39.8 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 5.02 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during April.

Stocks of treated seed on hand April 30, 2019 totaled 28.8 million pounds, compared with 12.5 million pounds on March 31, 2019. Of the April total, 22.8 million pounds were Runners. March stocks of treated seed included, 7.34 million pounds of Runners.
