The Oldham County Mini Ag Day will be held Feb. 14 in the Oldham County Barn, 305 Coke St., Vega. The meeting is hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with the program from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. A $10 fee will be charged at the door, and lunch will be provided.

The program topics and AgriLife Extension speakers from Amarillo will be:

  • Farm Bill and Market Outlook, DeDe Jones, risk management specialist, and Dr. Justin Benavidez, economist.
  • Ag Law Hot Topics, Tiffany Dowell Lashmet, agricultural law specialist.
  • Properly Assisting Cows at Birth, Dr. Juan Pineiro, dairy specialist.

The Wildorado FFA will talk about their Wildorado Cattle Co. seed stock livestock program and promote their sale during lunch.

There will be a two-hour auxin training after lunch, providing two Texas Department of Agriculture laws and regulations continuing education units.

Three dicamba products will be discussed – Engenia herbicide by BASF Corporation, XtendiMax herbicide with VaporGrip Technology by Bayer CropScience, and DuPont FeXapan herbicide Plus VaporGrip Technology by Corteva Agriscience. These are restricted-use pesticides and state-limited-use pesticides in Texas, which requires the sale to, and use by, certified applicators only.

TDA has added 2,4-D choline formulations – Enlist Duo and Enlist One for use on 2,4-D-tolerant crops – to be included in these mandatory trainings. These are state-limited-use pesticides in Texas and can only be sold to, and used by, certified applicators or those working under the supervision of a certified applicator.

The training will include the following topics: why do auxin herbicides require additional precautions, label requirements for approved auxin formulations, understanding temperature inversions, spray system hygiene, record keeping and using dicamba or 2,4-D in a weed management system.
