Peanut Stocks: Utilization Down 1%; 4.2Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2018 totaled 4.21 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.74 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.43 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 731 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 49.0 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 549 million pounds of which 526 million pounds were edible grades and 23.3 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 69.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 409 million pounds of Runners, and 47.8 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in October totaled 376 million pounds. Millings by type were 82.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 290 million pounds of Runners, and 3.70 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 200 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 119 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.7 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 38.8 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.87 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during October.

Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2018 totaled 82,000 pounds, compared with 122,000 pounds on September 30, 2018. Of the October total, 32,000 pounds were Runners. September stocks of treated seed included, 32,000 pounds of Runners.
