Peanut Stocks: Utilization Down 2%; 2.6 Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on September 30, 2018 totaled 2.59 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.81 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.81 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 735 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 48.1 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 553 million pounds of which 528 million pounds were edible grades and 24.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 72.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 409 million pounds of Runners, and 47.3 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in September totaled 346 million pounds. Millings by type were 58.3 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias and 288 million pounds of Runners.

    Commercial processors utilized 187 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 99.9 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 33.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 45.2 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 40.6 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.51 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during September.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2018 totaled 164,000 pounds, compared with 330,000 pounds on August 31, 2018. Of the September total, 48,000 pounds were Runners. August stocks of treated seed included, 114,000 pounds of Runners.
