USDA: Peanut Price Highlights

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on July 31, 2018 totaled 2.72 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.44 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.92 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 745 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 55.5 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 560 million pounds of which 536 million pounds were edible grades and 24.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 80.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 399 million pounds of Runners, and 57.2 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in July totaled 280 million pounds. Millings by type were 50.1 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 225 million pounds of Runners, and 4.20 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 191 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization by type was 109 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 23.8 million pounds for peanut candy, and 46.0 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 29.1 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.51 million pounds of peanut butter and 103,680 pounds of roasted peanuts during July.

Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31, 2018 totaled 2.97 million pounds, compared with 7.56 million pounds on June 30, 2018. Of the July total, 1.05 million pounds were Runners. June stocks of treated seed included 1.79 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 4.64 million pounds of Runners, and 1.14 million pounds of Spanish.
