Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 2%; 3Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on June 30, 2018 totaled 2.97 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.81 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.19 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 716 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 63.4 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 538 million pounds of which 522 million pounds were edible grades and 16.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 87.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 375 million pounds of Runners, and 60.4 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in June totaled 317 million pounds. Millings by type were 61.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 248 million pounds of Runners, and 7.76 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 205 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during June. Utilization by type was 118 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 27.9 million pounds for peanut candy, and 48.9 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 46.1 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.44 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during June.

Stocks of treated seed on hand June 30, 2018 totaled 7.56 million pounds, compared with 16.8 million pounds on May 31, 2018. Of the June total, 1.79 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 4.64 million pounds were Runners, and 1.14 million pounds were Spanish. May stocks of treated seed included 2.73 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 12.7 million pounds of Runners, and 1.36 million pounds of Spanish.
