Peanut Stocks and Processing: Utilization Up 3%, 4.6 Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on February 28, 2018 totaled 4.59 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.55 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.85 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 703 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 45.3 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 529 million pounds of which 506 million pounds were edible grades and 22.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 99.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 369 million pounds of Runners, and 38.1 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in February totaled 397 million pounds. Millings by type were 81.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 304 million pounds of Runners, and 12.9 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 185 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during February. Utilization by type was 98.0 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 35.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 43.2 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 44.6 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.82 million pounds of peanut butter and 155,520 pounds of roasted peanuts during February.

Stocks of treated seed on hand February 28, 2018 totaled 3.61 million pounds.
