Texas: Ag Farm Tour, Workshop, College Station, March 9-10

The Texas AgrAbility program of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present a free farm tour and agriculture workshop March 9-10 in College Station for veterans, active duty military and anyone interested in starting an agriculture or agribusiness operation.

The farm tour and networking event will be 4-7 p.m. March 9 at the Millican Reserve, 4401 High Prairie Road. The Battleground to Breaking Ground agricultural business workshop will be 8 a.m.-5 p.m. March 10 at the Agriculture and Life Sciences Building, 600 John Kimbrough Blvd. on the Texas A&M West Campus.

“Millican Reserve is a local organization that incorporates farm, community-supported agriculture, agritourism and conservation into their operation,” said Erin Kimbrough, AgriLife Extension program coordinator for family and community health, College Station.

“Attendees of this farm tour and networking opportunity will learn about the Millican Reserve, how they grow their produce and how they got started in this diverse agricultural operation. They will also meet other people who are interested in starting or expanding a farming or ranching enterprise.”

Kimbrough said the Battleground to Breaking Ground agricultural business workshop the following day will address rural business ideas, business planning, possibilities for farming or ranching with a disability, financial funding sources, and marketing and other support resources for beginning farmers and ranchers.

This program was developed with input from AgriLife Extension, AgrAbility, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, the National Farmer Veteran Coalition, Farm Service Agency, USDA Risk Management and Texas Department of Agriculture.
