Texas Pecans: Demand Good but Quality Variable

Deliveries by growers to delivery points were light. Demand was fairly good for good quality pecans. Natives are currently being harvested. Harvesting is expected to remain light. Harvested quality has been variable.

Demand was fairly good for the retail and gift pack trade. Buyers are continuing to make purchases from other production areas or are waiting for additional availability of pecans.

The weather forecast for this week shows low temperatures from the low 20s to upper 50s and highs in the upper 30s to mid-70s. There is a 10-20 percent chance of precipitation on Wednesday, January 10 and Thursday, January 11, with no precipitation projected the other days this week.

Prices paid to growers (from noon Tuesday, January 2, 2018 through noon Tuesday, January 9, 2018) at buyers delivery points or F.O.B. the orchard including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell of generally good quality in lots of 20,000 pounds or less unless otherwise stated.
