Georgia Pecans: Moderate Demand, Steady Prices

Deliveries were moderate to light and the market is about steady. Interest from the commercial shellers and accumulators for domestic trading is moderate, while the export and retail gift-pack businesses are moderate to slow. Some offerings have gone into cold storage to be sold after the New Year. Most of the growers are almost finished and are cleaning up the orchards.

Weather conditions in Georgia for the week throughout the state shows wintry and freezing temperatures ranging in the teens to low 20s in the evenings and early mornings and daytime temps in the 20s to low 30s. Rain and snow may hit parts of the state later this week.

Blends of export quality Desirables with 49-51% meat yield (nut count 45-49) sold in a range of about $4.90-5.31 per point. Blends of Stuarts with 45-57% meat yield sold in a range of about $3.92-4.80 mostly $4.52-4.72 per point. Blends with 44-50% meat yield (nut count 60-75) sold in a range of about $4.30-4.54 per point, while Blends with 46-52% meat yield (nut count 52-58) sold in a range of about $4.00-4.98 mostly $4.33-4.88 per point.

Prices paid to growers (late afternoon December 19, through late afternoon January 2, 2018) at buyers delivery point or F.O.B. the orchard including direct sales to end users, cents per pound in-shell of generally good quality in lots of 20,000 pounds or less unless otherwise stated.
