Peanut Stocks: 1.8 Bln Pounds in Storage, Utilization Up 3%

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on September 30, 2017 totaled 1.81 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.51 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.28 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 514 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 22.1 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 387 million pounds of which 371 million pounds were edible grades and 15.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 65.1 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 280 million pounds of Runners, and 25.8 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in September totaled 197 million pounds. Millings by type were 30.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias and 167 million pounds of Runners.

Commercial processors utilized 198 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during September. Utilization by type was 111 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 42.1 million pounds for peanut candy, and 39.1 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 45.8 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.76 million pounds of peanut butter during September.

Stocks of treated seed on hand September 30, 2017 totaled 63,000 pounds, compared with 221,000 pounds on August 31, 2017.
