Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2017 totaled 991 million pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.24 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 384 million pounds of actual farmer stock.
Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 583 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 23.6 million pounds.
Shelled peanut stocks totaled 439 million pounds of which 412 million pounds were edible grades and 26.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 71.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 314 million pounds of Runners, and 26.2 million pounds of Spanish.
Millings in August totaled 347 million pounds. Millings by type were 29.1 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 318 million pounds of Runners.
Commercial processors utilized 209 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 127 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 37.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.1 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 52.7 million pounds during the month.
Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.17 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during August.
Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2017 totaled 221,000 pounds.
