Texas: Wheat, Cattle Workshop, Haskell, Sept. 21

A wheat and cattle program will be hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Haskell County and the Haskell Ag Committee on Sept. 21.

Registration will begin at 5 p.m., with the program at 5:30 p.m. at the Haskell Civic Center. There will be a $10 charge for the meeting, and the meal will be sponsored by Haskell County Grain. Those planning to attend should RSVP to the AgriLife Extension office at 940-864-2658.

“There has been some discussion about higher protein wheat receiving additional premiums and what it takes to accomplish this,” said Jason Westbrook, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent in Haskell County. “We will also discuss the forage and grain trials we did this year.”

First on the agenda will be Bill Thompson, AgriLife Extension economist in San Angelo, discussing the market outlook for wheat, cattle, cotton, peanuts, guar, sesame and milo.

Dr. Emi Kimura, AgriLife Extension agronomist at Vernon, will provide wheat trial updates for the Rolling Plains and will discuss “Understanding the importance of nitrogen in wheat for grain and forage.”

Thompson will wrap up the discussion with “How to run an economic analysis on your cow herd.”

The program will adjourn by 8:30 p.m.
