Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 1% from Last Year; 1.4 Bln Pounds in Storage

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on July 31, 2017 totaled 1.44 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.79 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 733 million pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 676 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 32.5 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 508 million pounds of which 482 million pounds were edible grades and 26.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 90.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 358 million pounds of Runners, and 33.1 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in July totaled 314 million pounds. Millings by type were 45.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 266 million pounds of Runners, and 3.73 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 197 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization by type was 118 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 35.6 million pounds for peanut candy, and 37.8 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 47.5 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.62 million pounds of peanut butter during July.

Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31, 2017 totaled 863,000 pounds, compared with 4.71 million pounds on June 30, 2017
