Peanut Stocks: Down .6Bln Pounds from Last Year; Utilization Up 1%

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on April 30, 2017 totaled 2.68 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.28 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.93 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 714 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 39.2 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 537 million pounds of which 517 million pounds were edible grades and 19.8 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 105 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 384 million pounds of Runners, and 27.8 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in April totaled 410 million pounds. Millings by type were 76.6 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 322 million pounds of Runners, and 11.5 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 172 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during April. Utilization by type was 105 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 30.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 32.1 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 55.0 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 2.43 million pounds of peanut butter and 51,840 pounds of roasted peanuts during April.

Stocks of treated seed on hand April 30, 2017 totaled 46.6 million pounds, compared with 32.4 million pounds on March 31, 2017. Of the April total, 9.06 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 36.0 million pounds were Runners, and 1.56 million pounds were Spanish. March stocks of treated seed included 7.53 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 23.8 million pounds of Runners, and 1.08 million pounds of Spanish.
