Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2017 totaled 3.09 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.80 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.34 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.
Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 716 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 31.1 million pounds.
Shelled peanut stocks totaled 538 million pounds of which 517 million pounds were edible grades and 21.1 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 91.7 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 396 million pounds of Runners, and 29.3 million pounds of Spanish.
Millings in March totaled 446 million pounds. Millings by type were 58.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 362 million pounds of Runners, and 25.5 million pounds of Spanish.
Commercial processors utilized 191 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 114 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 38.4 million pounds for peanut candy, and 34.3 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 57.4 million pounds during the month.
Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.24 million pounds of peanut butter.
Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2017 totaled 32.4 million pounds. Of the March total, 7.53 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 23.8 million pounds were Runners, and 1.08 million pounds were Spanish.
