Four Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service offices are joining to host a three-hour “Interstate 40 Sorghum Luncheon” on March 28 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 6500 W. Amarillo Blvd., Amarillo.
“Our goal with this program is to give producers in our area the tools they need to plant and harvest a successful grain sorghum crop,” said Austin Voyles, AgriLife Extension agriculture and natural resources agent for Potter County.
In addition to Voyles, host AgriLife Extension agents and counties include Amanda Spiva, Oldham County; Derek Williamson, Armstrong County; and Jody Bradford, Carson County.
Lunch will be provided and there is no charge due to the sponsorship of the Texas Sorghum Producers, Voyles said. But those planning to attend must RSVP by March 22 to one of the four AgriLife Extension offices.
One integrated pest management continuing education unit will be offered by the Texas Department of Agriculture for pesticide applicators.
The program will include the following topics and speakers:
- Sugarcane aphid management, Dr. Ed Bynum, AgriLife Extension entomologist, Amarillo.
- Pre-plant consideration, Dr. Jourdan Bell, AgriLife Extension agronomist, Amarillo.
- Agronomic discussion, Dr. Brent Bean, United Sorghum Checkoff director of agronomy, Amarillo.
- Industry update, Wayne Cleveland, Texas Grain Sorghum executive director, Salado.
- Pricing strategies, DeDe Jones, AgriLife Extension risk management program specialist, Amarillo.
