Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 4% from Last Year

Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on October 31, 2016 totaled 4.14 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 4.50 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.57 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 547 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 19.3 million pounds.

Shelled peanut stocks totaled 411 million pounds of which 383 million pounds were edible grades and 27.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 70.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 299 million pounds of Runners, and 13.2 million pounds of Spanish.

Millings in October totaled 368 million pounds. Millings by type were 59.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 302 million pounds of Runners, and 6.69 million pounds of Spanish.

Commercial processors utilized 191 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during October. Utilization by type was 115 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 40.2 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 64.2 million pounds during the month.

Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.17 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during October.

Stocks of treated seed on hand October 31, 2016 totaled 45,000 pounds, compared with 47,000 pounds on September 30, 2016. Of the October total, 7,000 pounds were Runners. September stocks of treated seed included, 7,000 pounds of Runners.
