Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on August 31, 2016 totaled 1.25 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 1.46 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 653 million pounds of actual farmer stock.
Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 573 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 19.5 million pounds.
Shelled peanut stocks totaled 431 million pounds of which 385 million pounds were edible grades and 45.8 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 67.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 301 million pounds of Runners, and 16.7 million pounds of Spanish.
Millings in August totaled 341 million pounds. Millings by type were 34.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias and 306 million pounds of Runners.
Commercial processors utilized 211 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during August. Utilization by type was 125 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 37.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 44.4 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 57.6 million pounds during the month.
Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.24 million pounds of peanut butter and 51,840 pounds of roasted peanuts during August.
Stocks of treated seed on hand August 31, 2016 totaled 50,000 pounds, compared with 71,000 pounds on July 31, 2016.
Of the August total, 7,000 pounds were Runners. July stocks of treated seed included, 7,000 pounds of Runners.
