Colorado: Rains Bring Some Relief, Many Areas Still Dry – USDA

Crop Progress and Condition for the Week Ending May 3, 2015.

Beneficial precipitation fell in varying amounts in some districts, hindering planting activities for several crops where locally heavy rainfall occurred. Generally, localities in the southeast heavily affected by persisting dry conditions did not benefit adequately from moisture events, according to reporters.

Irrigation reserves in the San Luis Valley continued to decline while precipitation was scarce. Stored feed supplies were rated 2 percent very short, 6 percent short, 82 percent adequate, and 10 percent surplus.

Sheep death loss was 70 percent average and 30 percent light. Cattle death loss was 1 percent heavy, 83 percent average, and 16 percent light.
