FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (March 8, 2010) --
Jason Norsworthy, associate professor of crop, soil and environmental
sciences in the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, received the
Outstanding Early Career Weed Scientist Award at the Weed Science Society of
America's recent annual meeting in Denver. The award recognizes "originality
and creativity and making a notable contribution to the field of weed
science."
Norsworthy’s research with the statewide Arkansas Agricultural Experiment
Station includes developing practices for managing herbicide-resistant weeds
and other cost-effective and environmentally responsible weed management
practices.
Lori J. Wiles of the USDA Agricultural Research Service, chair of the WSSA
awards committee, said the award recipients “are informing our understanding
of weeds, developing environmentally sound and cost-effective management
techniques, and pioneering best practices.”
With support from sponsors BASF, Dow AgroSciences, DuPont Crop Protection
and Syngenta Crop Protection, WSSA presented awards in 10 categories to 23
persons.
