LUBBOCK, Texas (January 25, 2010) – The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct an educational program from 8 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Feb. 9 in conjunction with the Southwest Farm and Ranch Classic in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Mark Brown, AgriLife Extension agent in Lubbock County, said the program is designed to give producers helpful production tips for 2010 while providing them a handy venue to earn continuing education units.

“The farm show is free as is our educational meeting,” Brown said. “Producers can attend all day, or just the morning or afternoon sessions.”

Brown said the two sessions combined are accredited for five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units and 3.25 Certified Crop Advisor credits.

The list of speakers includes representatives from AgriLife Extension, Texas Tech University, commodity associations and the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Morning topics will include: Cotton Management for 2010, High Plains Picker vs. Stripper Field Comparisons, Texas Tech Cotton Research, Deep Nitrogen Sampling Results for 2009, Alternative Crops for the High Plains and Sorghum Research Update.

The afternoon session will deal with cotton pests and diseases and an update on pesticide laws and regulations.

The Southwest Farm and Ranch Classic will be held Feb. 9-11. More information about the AgriLife Extension meeting and the farm show can be found at: http://www.swclassic.com .
