CONWAY, Arkansas (January 13, 2010) –
Commercial fruit and fruit and nut tree growers from across the state are
invited learn about the latest management techniques at the Feb. 16 Tree and
Small Fruit workshop at the Natural Resources Center in Conway.
The conference runs from 8
a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the center at 110 S. Amity Road. A fee of $25 will be
charged to cover food and educational materials. Checks should be made
payable to Faulkner County Extension Service and mailed to 110 South Amity
Road, Suite 200, Conway, AR 72032.

“We will have a full program
of state specialists, area producers and many more educators there to
address day-to-day decisions and challenges producers may be facing,” said
Marsh said.
The agenda includes speakers
from the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, as well as
Louisiana State University:
· Dr. Terry Kirkpatrick, U of A professor/nematologist
– “Update on new fungicides and rotation of products.”
· Dr. Curt Rom, U of A professor of
horticulture – “Apples and brambles – production practices.”
· Dr. Elena Garcia, U of A, extension fruit
specialist – “Overview of Arkansas fruit and U of A Services available and
sustainability.”

Dr. Jon Zawislak, U of A apiary program specialist — “Bees in the process.”
· Dr. Ron Rainey, U of A agricultural
economist — “Market Maker program.”
· Dr. Nathan Slaton, U of A professor of crop,
soil and environmental sciences – “Cultural Practices—Soil Fertility.”
· Dr. Donn Johnson, U of A professor of
entomology – “Update on new insecticides and rotation of products.”
· Sherri Smith U of A program associate/plant
diagnostic lab – “Information and resources available.”
· Dan Chapman, U of A, Fruit Substation
director – “Real world applications.”
· Dr. Charles Graham, LSU extension pecan
specialist – “Strawberries and Pecans.”
