MILAN, Tennessee (December 15, 2009) – The Milan No-Till Field Day, which began more than 30 years ago, has become this small city's claim to fame. In 2010, Milan will celebrate the 26th event on Thursday, July 22 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In the 1940s, Milan was referred to as a boom town known for the manufacturer of World World II ammunitions at the Milan Arsenal. In 1944, The Saturday Day Evening Post predicted that it would be a "ghost town" at war's end.

Fortunately, Milan, is far from a ghost town with a population of 8,000. And, due in large part to the location of a University of Tennessee Field Station, Milan remains on the events calendar for those in the business of agriculture on the fourth Thursday of July in even-numbered years.

The annual event showcases erosion and crop management experiments featuring the the latest crop research. Hands-on  tours offer farmers, consultants and others in the ag industry a chance to see how the crops and talk with researchers. Also, included are commercial exhibits in a mini tradeshow with educational displays and demonstrations.

The No-Till Field Day location is also home of the West Tennessee Agricultural, which contains more than 2,700 artifacts and farm tools from the local agrarian culture. For more information about the field day schedule and other events, call 731-686-7362 or email: tennu@bellsouth.net
