Louisiana:

LSU AgCenter Sugarcane Field Day Set for July 15

St. Gabriel (June 2, 2009) – A review of new sugarcane varieties and field tours on weed control, insect management and disease management will be featured at the annual sugarcane field day July 15 at the LSU AgCenter’s Sugar Research Station in St. Gabriel, according to Dr. Kenneth Gravois, resident coordinator at the station. 

Along with the field tours, LSU AgCenter sugarcane specialist Dr. Ben Legendre will present a sugarcane burning update, and LSU AgCenter economist Dr. Mike Salassi will review rules in the new farm bill. 

In addition, LSU AgCenter climatologist Jay Grymes will offer a program on hurricanes in south Louisiana. 

Registration for the field day will begin at 8 a.m. with field tours starting at 9. 

The Sugar Research Station is located in St. Gabriel on Louisiana Highway 30, 11 miles south of Tiger Stadium or 9 miles north of Gonzales.  

A sponsored lunch will be provided at noon. Further information is available by calling the station at 225-642‑8105.
