Texas: Swisher County Cotton Tour, Kress, Oct. 18

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Swisher County Ag Committee has rescheduled their Swisher County Cotton Tour for Oct. 18 after being postponed earlier this month due to inclement weather, said the county’s AgriLife Extension agent.

“We’ll meet to start the tour at Flatlands Grain in Kress,” said John Villalba. “Flatlands Grain is at the intersection of Farm-to-Market 145 and U.S. Highway 87.

“The fields to be showcased are meant to serve as examples not only for producers seeking information on varieties but also harvest aids, which have been of great interest during these last few varying weather spells,” Villalba said.

Tour particulars are as follows:

  • 9 a.m., Mike Goss Phytogen Innovation Trial, 5.2 miles north of Flatlands Grain. From U.S. Highway 87 take Farm-to-Market Road 928, travel 2 miles east to County Road 16, then a quarter mile south to the trial location.
  • 10 a.m., Dexter Adams PGR Trial, 4.5 miles north of the Goss farm tour stop on U.S. Highway 87.
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Jeremy Reed/Swisher County R.A.C.E. or Replicated Agronomic Cotton Evaluation Trial, a Soil Health Trial and the Barry Evans Harvest Aid Trial, 12 miles south from Adams PGR Trial on Interstate 27 and west on County Road DD. Lunch will be included in this stop, sponsored by Eco-Drip Irrigation, which will have a representative present to discuss their irrigation products.

Individual registration is $10 with an RSVP deadline of Oct. 17. For more information and to RSVP, call the AgriLife Extension office in Swisher County at 806-995-3726.

Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – one general, one drift minimization and one integrated pest management will be offered.
