Texas: Leasing Private Land for Public Hunting Workshop, Thrall, Oct. 12

The Stiles Farm Foundation and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department are hosting an educational program Oct. 12 for those interested in leasing private land for public hunting.

The free workshop will be from 2:30-5:30 p.m. at the Stiles Farm Foundation, 5700 Farm-to-Market Road 1063 in Thrall.

The first 75 individuals who RSVP, will receive a free dove hunt and clay shoot, said program coordinators. To preregister,, call 979-255-2761 or email Kyle Thigpen, Texas Parks and Wildlife biologist, at kyle.thigpen@tpwd.texas.gov.

Topics and speakers include:

  • Clay shooting, Denise Harmel-Garza, Texas 4-H program coordinator, College Station.
  • Leasing Private Lands for Public Hunting, Kyle Thigpen, TPWD leasing biologist, College Station.
  • Legal Considerations for Public Hunting, E.V. “Rusty” Adams III, Texas A&M Real Estate Office, College Station
  • Dove Field Management, Dr. John Tomecek, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service wildlife specialist.

A dove hunt for licensed participants will be from 5:45-7 p.m. Participants are required to bring their own firearm, case, ammunition and valid hunting license to hunt.

The Stiles Farm Foundation was established by the Stiles family at Thrall in Williamson County. The farm is used by AgriLife Extension and Texas A&M AgriLife Research, which conduct field experiments and use the facility as a teaching platform.
