North Dakota: Large Increase in Grain Crops From 2013 – USDA

Based on July 1 conditions, North Dakota’s 2014 spring wheat crop is forecast at 267 million bushels, up 13 percent from last year, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average yield is forecast at 46 bushels per acre, down one-half bushel from 2013. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 5.80 million acres, up 15 percent from a year ago.

Durum wheat production is forecast at 32.3 million bushels, up 9 percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 38 bushels per acre, down one-half bushel from 2013. Area to be harvested for grain is expected to total 850,000 acres, up 10 percent from a year ago.

 

Winter wheat production is forecast at 26.3 million bushels, down 21 percent from the June 1 forecast, but 199 percent above last year’s crop. Average yield is forecast at 47 bushels per acre, 4 bushels more than 2013. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 560,000 acres, up 173 percent from a year ago.

Barley production is forecast at 37.2 million bushels, down 19 percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 62 bushels per acre, down 2 bushel from 2013. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 600,000 acres, down 17 percent from a year ago.

Oat production is forecast at 9.36 million bushels, up 12 percent from last year. Average yield is forecast at 72 bushels per acre, up 10 bushels from 2013. Area to be harvested for grain is estimated at 130,000 acres, down 4 percent from a year ago.

Fall potato planted acreage by type of potato consists of 44 percent Russet, 33 White, 22 Red, and 1 Yellow.
