Arkansas: River Valley Beef Cattle Conference Set Feb. 12 in Ozark
Beef cattle outlook, rebuilding the cow herd, rebuilding pastures and alternative feedstuffs are among the agenda topics for the 2013 River Valley Beef Cattle Conference set for Feb. 12 at the I-40 Livestock Auction in Ozark.
“The drought that’s crippling the cattle industry in Arkansas is showing no signs of abating,” said Tom Troxel, associate head-Animal Science, for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. “That means cattlemen will need new tools to manage and survive, if 2013 is a repeat of 2012 – we hope to offer those tools at this year’s River Valley Beef Cattle Conference.”
The River Valley Beef Cattle Conference is a joint educational effort by the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture and Farm Credit of Western Arkansas.
The conference speakers are:
- Dr. Tom Troxel, professor/associate head Animal Science – “Is it time to rebuild the herd?”
- Dr. John Jennings, professor-forages – “Rebuilding pastures.”
- Dr. Paul Beck, professor-Animal Science – “Uses and limitations of alternative feedstuffs for cattle.”
- Representative from CattleFax – to speak on the future of the cattle market.
A registration fee of $20 will be collected at the door. The conference is from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
